Grief is part of life. Understanding it belongs to all of us.

Grief does not stay neatly within a funeral, a family or a period of bereavement. People carry loss into their workplaces, relationships and everyday lives.

GIDII encourages a broader understanding of grief and the ways we can recognise it, talk about it and support one another.

Making Room For Loss

Grief literacy means developing the understanding and confidence to recognise grief and respond with care. It begins with acknowledging that people experience loss in different ways.

Loss Through Death

The death of someone close can change daily routines, relationships and our sense of the future. Remembering their life and acknowledging their absence can take many forms.

Loss Through Change

Illness, injury, changes in work, separation and other transitions can bring grief. Even a welcome change may involve leaving something important behind.

Loss That Goes Unrecognized

Some losses receive little acknowledgement from others. Making room for these experiences helps people speak without feeling they must prove their grief is worthy of attention.

Supporting One Another

Listening, staying in contact and offering practical help are ways to support someone. Understanding grief can help us respond with less uncertainty and greater care.

From Understanding To Everyday Care

Our education and conversations connect learning with the situations people encounter in families, workplaces and communities.

We explore:

• Recognising different experiences of loss
• Talking about grief with sensitivity
• Listening without rushing to offer answers
• Offering practical, thoughtful support
• Respecting cultural and personal differences
• Using film and stories to deepen understanding

The aim is to help people feel more confident making space for grief and staying connected to someone living with loss.
